European countries consistently rank among the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Almost every corner of Europe has something to offer to travelers who are eager to explore local history and culture.

While some European cities have a better-developed tourist infrastructure, others are renowned for their hospitality, cuisine or numerous historical landmarks.

What you need to keep in mind, however, that some cities in Europe are best to visit off-peak season when there are fewer crowds.

Rome, Italy

In addition to the iconic Colosseum, The Roman Forum and the Pantheon, there are many less-known but fabulous sites, such as the Pyramid of Cestius, Basilica Santa Pudenziana, and some of the many smaller churches and basilicas scattered throughout the city.

 

When to visit: Rome can be scorching hot and crowded during the summer, so it’s best you avoid the high season (July and August). The city is ideal to visit from October to April.

 

Istanbul, Turkey

 

Istanbul has been the seat of mighty Empires for the greater part of its long history. Today, it’s a global city of more than 15 million inhabitants, spanning two continents.

In addition to its many historic landmarks, Istanbul can feel very modern because the city has undergone a massive transformation during the past decades.

When to visit: Istanbul can be pretty lovely in the spring but you can also visit in September because the weather remains warm and pleasant.

 

Seville, Spain

One of the culturally richest cities in Spain, Seville is the capital of the historic Andalusia province. Seville has been ranked among the ten cities everyone will be dying to visit in 2018 by Lonely Planet.

The city’s architecture blends Arabic and Spanish styles and is home to one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world – Seville Cathedral.

When to visit: Seville is located in southern Spain and be quite hot during summer. Best time to visit is from March to May.

 

Venice, Italy

Vienna, Austria
