Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain rank among the world’s top tourist destinations, but there are also some lesser-known, yet fabulous locations around the Mediterranean waiting to reveal their secrets.

For all of you out there who love sun, sand and the sea, the Mediterranean has plenty to offer. We bring you the best beaches in the Mediterranean you need to visit this summer.

Cala Granara, Spargi Island, Italy

Spargi Island is one of the small islands located off the coast of Sardinia in the Maddalena Archipelago. The island is uninhabited and untouched by mass tourism which makes it an ideal place for a quiet, secluded vacation far from the bustling tourist hubs of Italy and nearby Sardinia.

Located on the eastern coast of the island, Cala Granara beach will leave you breathless due to its crystal-clear turquoise water, white sand, and palm trees.

The Blue Grotto, Capri, Italy

Capri is the most beautiful island in Italy which has been a popular vacation spot since the ancient times. Today, it’s popular among the rich and famous due to its stunning natural beauty, mild climate and proximity to Naples, Sorrento and other popular resorts around the Bay of Naples.

The Blue Grotto beach is for the adventurous, as it’s located on the northern side of Capri. The island itself is rugged, with towering white cliffs and caves.

As the water is very deep, you can only enter it by diving or use a ladder. One thing is certain: The Blue Grotto won’t leave you disappointed.

Tahiti Beach, St Tropez, France

One of the most iconic towns on the French Riviera, St. Tropez offers everything you need for a luxurious vacation.

Just south of the town, you will find a long stretch of sandy coastline dotted with restaurants, bars, and hotels. Tahiti Beach can be reached either by boat, taxi or not foot and as soon as you arrive you will be impressed by the pristine sea.

Porto Katsiki, Lefkada, Greece

Porto Katsiki has been named as one of the best beaches in Greece and in the Mediterranean. It is located on the western coast of Lefkada, one of the three Ionian Islands. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Porto Katsiki is the amazing color of the Ionian Sea that you probably won’t experience anywhere else in the Mediterranean.

The beach can be reached by car but there are regular taxi boats from the nearby villages.

Pisina Beach, Sivota, Greece

Also called the ‘Blue Lagoon’, this beach is located on a small, lush and uninhabited island just off the coast of Sivota, an iconic village on the Ionian Coast in northwestern Greece.

It is reachable only by boat from Sivota. You will also find no restaurants there, so make sure you bring food, water and everything else you may need.

The sheer beauty of the turquoise water, white cliffs and the prevailing sense of seclusion make it a special place to visit.

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos, Greece

Like many of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, Navagio is secluded and reachable only by boat. The beach itself is a true wonder of nature – it’s located in the shadow of a white sandstone cliff jutting out into the azure sea.

Navagio translates as ‘Shipwreck’ and got its name because it was used as a smugglers cove in the past.

The beach is extremely popular with tourists, so be prepared for crowds if you’re visiting during the high season.

Spiaza, Susak, Croatia

Susak is a peculiar island in the Adriatic Sea formed of fine gray sand laid on a rock base. The island is small but it’s worth visiting and you can also visit some of the other islands such as Losinj along the way.

While it takes time to get to the island, your effort will be rewarded when you arrive at the island’s main attraction, Spiaza. The water is quite shallow and ideal for kids to play in.

Red Beach, Santorini, Greece

Santorini Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. Its iconic traditional Greek architecture and unique natural scenery have made into one of the best places to visit, not only in Greece but the whole Mediterranean.

Red Beach is some twenty-minute drive south of the island’s capital, close to a small, picturesque village of Akrotiri.

What sets it apart from other beaches is the red sand (the beach itself is mostly pebbles) and red volcanic rocks overlooking the small bay in the southernmost part of the island.
