8. Movile Cave
This is a cave located in Mangalia, Romania. The cave was discovered in 1986, but it is said to have existed for over 5.5 million years. That’s not unusual. What’s unusual is that, the cave is cut off from natural light, has low oxygen level and high concentration of hydrogen sulphide, yet has been able to sustain life. Research shows that there are more than 33 different species of organisms in this cave, and some of these species cannot be found anywhere else. Clearly, these organisms have found ways to adapt to the toxic environment.
